Peru has the fifth biggest supply of fresh water in the Americas. The trouble is it’s on the eastern side of the Andes mountains in the Amazon. Two thirds of population, most of the economic activity and the capital city are the other side which gets just 2% of the nation’s water supply.

Santa Cruz is Bolivia’s largest and wealthiest city but it’s also become a centre for the country’s thriving illegal drugs trade. Bolivia is now the world’s third largest producer of cocaine and it’s also a key transit country for trafficking. All this is leading to a spike in violent crime.
